Safetykleen removed 64,260 tonnes of Waste from their sites in 2021, 80% of this was recovered using R codes = 51,233 tonne and the 20% of this was disposal of through other means using D codes. Additionally, the 16 tonnes of this were sent to landfill which equates to <1%.

Corporate commitment is a huge positive, but small, everyday things make a huge difference to our local environment. Clearing an historic industrial waste

KDC have over 20 years working in the decommissioning, demolition, and land remediation field. KDC serves the nuclear, oil gas and process, pharmaceutical and industrial markets. Their focus is on safety, health, and environment (SHE).

Safetykleen have been the preferred service provider for clearing hazardous / industrial waste from KDC projects.

We’re proud to have helped KDC Decommission, a demolition remediation company, remove circa. 30,000 litters of hazardous waste products, which was required to be done in an extremely speedy timeframe.

Kleenwaste take delivery of 5 new trucks

This week Kleenwaste have welcomed 5 new trucks to its dedicated fleet. The new 7.5 tonne trucks are added to the existing fleet to serve its large UK customer base through Kleenwaste’s branch network.

With taking delivery of the new trucks, Kleenwaste is making progress with the investment of upgrading and expanding its dedicated fleet.

“Despite Covid-19, we continue to invest in expanding and upgrading our fleet, which allows us to deliver superior customer service to an ever-growing customer base across the UK,” Mark Cawley, Managing Director Safetykleen UK. “In October 2019 we rebranded our waste business to Kleenwaste and taking delivery of the new trucks with new Kleenwaste livery is a major milestone for us and our dedicated team members across the UK.”

Investing in its dedicated fleet of trucks and oil tankers is a key focus area for Kleenwaste. Since 2019 these investments have contributed to being awarded the FORS Silver level and a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Mark Cawley believes the fleet investment plan will provide additional capacity for business growth and enhanced customer service, while creating one of the most modern and environmentally friendly fleets in the UK.

Safely growing chemical storage capacity

Solution

The unique Pushback System from Safety Unlimited stacks pallets of drums or IBCs within the same clever unit. Drums are four per pallet and IBCs two at a time across a total of 24 pallets two deep, on two levels. How does it work? Place the first pallet on the Pushback cradle, on the shelf, and push back the next pallet against the first one. When you take a pallet off of the shelf the next pallet glides forward. This is based on a safe, proven, pallet rack system including thoughtful colour coding of the internal structure to ensure correct placement. Each unit measures 8900mm x 3200mm x 3300mm (LxDxH) with lockable sliding doors in any colour scheme and made from 2.5mm profiled Steel Sheet.

Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor requirement

A Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) is a person certified to provide advice to companies whose activities include consignment, carriage, or the related packing, loading, filling or unloading of dangerous goods to monitor compliance with legal requirements and to ensure the preparation of annual reports. The DGSA is also responsible for implementing specified procedures relating to handling and managing dangerous goods and that they are adhered to throughout the business.

 

The legislation requires companies to appoint an external DGSA to their business for ADR compliance. Kleenwaste offer a comprehensive DGSA service, which will ensure your business is compliant with all legislative requirements. Kleenwaste will appoint you a designated DGSA who will work closely with you advising on correct procedures for your site, supply regular updates and create your annual report.

 

The regulations surrounding this requirement (ADR) previously exempted companies from requiring a designated DGSA if they consign shipments, but are not actively involved in any of the loading, packing, filling or unloading activities. However, an amendment to the ADR 2019 now requires these companies to recruit or appoint a DGSA by 31st December 2021.

Environmental Management System required by new legislation

London – 8 October, 2019 – Kleenwaste is proud to announce the launch of its bespoke Environmental Management System (EMS) advisory service. To be compliant with updated UK environmental permitted guidance, regulated businesses must implement an EMS. Kleenwaste offer a bespoke service, including site assessments, review of existing systems and the individual business needs that will help businesses implement an EMS in line with the new guidance. “UK permitting requirements are evolving and becoming stricter on businesses to reduce their environmental impact. The new EMS requirement is a key example of this, but for many businesses in the SMB segment this is a complex issue requiring detailed knowledge of the legislative landscape. That is where Kleenwaste can help them and take on a large part of the burden for assessment and implementation of an EMS,” according to Kleenwaste’s Head of Compliance, David Cribb.

 

EMS requirement explained

An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a set of processes and procedures that enable a business to reduce its environmental impact and increase operating efficiency.

From 7 April 2019, if you have a waste permit that was granted before 6 April 2008 you need to manage and operate your waste activity in line with a written management system. This system should be bespoke to your operation and should describe what you will do to minimise the risk of pollution from the activities covered by your permit. Your risk assessment has to be part of your management system. Any business must have its management system in place before it starts operating and must be implemented fully when the business is in operation. If a business fails to do so, it’s in breach of its permit which can lead to hefty fines or even site closures.

The amount of information a business needs in its management system will depend on how complicated and risky their activities are. If a permit is for low-risk activities, for example a small sewage treatment works, the management system can be simple or if it has a number of permits they may be covered by an overall management system. It may carry out certain things in the same way at different permitted sites and may also have site specific procedures. A business needs to be able to explain what happens at each site and which parts of the overall management system apply. For example at some sites it may need to show it’s carrying out additional measures to prevent pollution because they are nearer to sensitive locations than others.

Kleenwaste welcomes 9 new tankers to its fleet

Brentford – 9 October 2019 – Kleenwaste has welcomed no less than 9 brand new tankers to its dedicated fleet of oil tankers. The new DAF trucks have been added to the existing fleet in order to serve its large nationwide customer base through Kleenwaste’s branch network.

With taking delivery of the new tankers, Kleenwaste has completed the upgrade and expansion of its tanker fleet, and its entire nationwide fleet is now on average less than three years in service. It also marks the final stage of a £ 2.5 million investment. In 2020 Kleenwaste plans to invest a further £ 1 million to expand and upgrade its fleet further.

“In recent years our business and customer base has grown steadily and by adding the 9 new tankers to our fleet, we’ll be able to continue to deliver superior customer service,” Mark Cawley, Managing Director for Kleenwaste. “Our superior customer service and quick collection of waste oils is one of our key differentiators in the market.”

Cawley believes the fleet investment plan will provide additional capacity for business growth and enhanced customer service and create one of the most modern and environmentally efficient oil tanker fleets in the UK.
